Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

This program is a Federal income supplement program funded by general tax revenues, not by Social Security taxes like the Social Security disability insurance program. It pays benefits based on financial needs and is designed to help blind, disabled, and aged individuals with little or no income to meet the fundamental needs of life like a home, food, and clothes.
