Definition of Child

The Social Security Administration defines child as a child from the age of birth up to age 18. Children may qualify for Supplemental Security Income benefits if they disabled and have little to no income and limited resources. The definition for disabled is similar for a child as it is for an adult. The child must have a physical or mental health condition that seriously limits the child's activities, and the physical or mental health condition must be expected to last one year or result in death.
