Disabled children may qualify for certain types of Social Security Disability benefits. Disability, as defined under Title XVI, may allow a child, who is under the age of 18, to be considered disabled if they have a physical or mental health condition or combination of conditions which can be established by acceptable medical evidence. These conditions must be severe, must cause a marked limitation in the mental or physical abilities of the child and they must last at least 12 months or be expected to cause the child's death.
