Personality Disorders

Disorders which affect a Social Security Disability claimant's ability to function in a social or occupational environment due to long-standing and harmful personality traits are called personality disorders. This category of mental health conditions can include a wide array of different behaviors which can range from the minor to the severe. A person who has a personality disorder can have the following patterns of behavior: 1) severe mood disturbances; 2) pathological or inappropriate behaviors or suspicions; 3) autistic thinking; 4) behavior or speech that is outside of the range of "normal"; 5) high levels of aggression, dependence or passiveness; and 6) highly impulsive, intense or damaging behavior.
