Residual Functional Capacity

Residual Functional Capacity is the amount of physical or mental ability a Social Security Disability claimant has to perform substantial gainful activity after all of their symptoms and mental and physical health conditions are considered. The Social Security Administration will evaluate a disability claimant's residual functional capacity or RFC using the sequential evaluation process (and other Social Security Disability rules) to determine if a claimant can work a past relevant job or be retrained for another job (given their age, work skills and educational level.)
