Definition of State Children's Health Insurance Program (schip)

The State Children's Health Insurance Program provides health insurance for children from families who are unable to qualify for Medicaid because their incomes are too high, but not high enough to afford private health insurance. Children do not have to qualify for Supplemental Security Income benefits to qualify for SCHIP.
