Survivor benefits are paid to a deceased claimant who was receiving either SSDI benefits or retirement benefits at the time of their death or who qualified for SSA retirement benefits based on their earnings record at the time of their death.

Survivor's benefits can be paid to deceased worker's children who are unmarried, under the age of 18 or 18-19 years of age if they are attending school full-time. If the child became disabled prior to the age of 22 (and remain disabled) they may receive benefits at any age.
