Definition of Unearned Income
Unearned income is income a Social Security Disability claimant receives which is not earned including: unemployment benefits, interest income, cash from friends or relatives, state disability payments and pensions. Supplemental Security Income benefits can be reduced (for qualifying claimants) if a claimant has too much unearned income.
