The Social Security Administration considers wages as any payment for any service a claimant performs for their employee. Wages, while generally paid in cash, can also include other types of compensation given to the employee for services rendered. Wages will include: bonuses, commissions, vacation pay, fees, vacation pay, cash tips of $20 or more a month, and severance pay. The Social Security Administration does not consider the following types of income as "wages": capital gains, gifts, inheritances, investment income and jury duty pay.
